The reported information on my background check is totally wrong. It's showing criminal records that have nothing to do with me—I've never been involved in criminal affairs or arrested. Because of these errors, I got turned down for housing twice, and I'm scared it might mess up my job and my chance to find a place to live happily. I've never dealt with this kind of thing before. Got any advice or been through something like this yourself?

It might happen that the background check company provides reports with errors. I suggest you dispute all the wrong information. The process is not as difficult as it might seem, you have to write a letter, explaining your situation and the errors you found. If you have any proof that you’re right, you should attach it to the letter. Then, you have to wait for up to 30 days. During the investigation, the background check company should check your proof, and come back with a response. If they don’t change the errors, but you’re sure that you’re right, reach out to consumer law lawyers, for professional support and legal assistance.
